It has been reportedly revealed that Modern Warfare 2 Premium DLC will arrive in Year 2 content for the upcoming Call of Duty game and focus on remastered maps as its foundation. Which maps will be chosen is still unclear, but prior leaks say that they will be remasters of classic maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 released in 2009.
Modern Warfare 2 premium DLC will release in 2023 and 2034
Activision’s plans for premium DLC was independently verified by Insider-Gaming and partially confirmed by prior leaks from @TheGhostofHope on Twitter.
The report claims that this batch of DLC in Modern Warfare 2’s roadmap will help sustain sales for the publisher throughout 2023 and the first half of 2024. However, it was unable to verify whether this premium DLC will indeed be remastered versions of classic MW2 maps — and no, the game isn’t a remake — or if Infinity Ward would release a “greatest hits” map pack with legacy maps from across the Call of Duty catalog, as TheGhostofHope originally suggested.
This report corroborates a statement made by Activision in its Q2 2022 earnings report that the Call of Duty developers would be producing “new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.”
Premium DLC for the Call of Duty franchise has been available before, such as the Zombies Chronicles for Black Ops 3, so fans shouldn’t be too surprised to see a separation between premium DLC and standard DLC that includes maps, weapons, and the regular Battle Pass. It will be interesting to see how much DLC, if any, will be included in the Xbox Game pass version of Modern Warfare 2.
