Don’t Starve Adds Multiplayer This Summer

Klei Entertainment has announced that Don't Starve will soon add multiplayer to its roguelike starvation simulation, supporting 2-4 players in simultaneous play.

While the company previously assured fans that Don't Starve would be single-player only, they've since changed their mind having shipped the single-player game with the resources they had available before launch.

"It was (and still is) important to us that multiplayer would not only be interesting for you to play," Klei Entertainment developer Joe Wreggelsworth wrote in a forum post, "but also something that we would feel proud of creating."

The studio wasn't sure how Don't Starve would do sales-wise to begin with, but thanks to the nature of modern gaming, updates, downloadable content, and the like Klei will soon give players the chance to enjoy the game together.

"We didn't know if we would have the resources to pull off an expansion, let alone a full conversion of our game from the ground up," Wreggelsworth continued. The team calls the new expansion Don't Starve Together which allows friends and complete strangers to "survive together" in both public and private matchmaking, with the main gameplay mechanics remaining relatively unchanged.

There are even more questions and answers for fans in the developer's forums. Don't Starve Together is scrounging for release this summer.
