Google Reportedly Launching Set-Top Box Called Android TV

Google is allegedly getting ready to launch a set-top box of its own to compete against Amazon's recently announced Fire TV.

According to The Verge, the company has been working on an "entertainment interface" that provides a streamlined experience (akin to Roku or Apple TV) for consumers to enjoy all of their media from the comfort of their couch. The device will reportedly support a whole host of entertainment apps as well as video games.

It looks like set-top boxes are going to be the big thing this year, as Amazon has already stepped into the ring with Fire TV, and rumors suggest Apple will be doing the same later this year. If all of these devices end up supporting games in some fashion, it'll be interesting to see what sort of affect it has on the dedicated console market.

Would you be interested in a set-top box designed by Google? If this report actually does prove to be true, do you think Android TV will be able to compete against the likes of Amazon's Fire TV?
