Naughty Dog on Hypothetical The Last of Us 2: “Ellie Can Now Control the Infected”, Poking Fun at Resident Evil

[Some spoilers may follow]

Over on Reddit, the community was lucky enough to get another opportunity to ask the creative minds at Naughty Dog about The Last of Us and its recently released DLC, Left Behind, but the developers behind 2013's best video game got a little silly towards the end.

While some readers asked about the complicated relationship between Joel and Ellie (Neil Druckmann: "You can love and hate someone at the same time.") and Ellie's relationship with DLC character Riley (Druckmann again: "We wanted to create a meaningful/moving kiss in a game — which is super rare."), another Redditor asked about hypothetical changes to The Last of Us in a sequel.

There's been a lot of talk about a sequel and Creative Director Neil Druckmann even teased the potential for a follow-up in another medium entirely, while Naughty Dog's Bruce Straley teased something after the 3rd DLC drop with a winking emoticon.

Still, the only information offered about a sequel to The Last of Us came from Druckmann when one fan asked about the hypothetical anything-goes possibilities of a follow-up. The fan asked "In a purely hypothetical world where anything goes, what do you think a Last of Us sequel would be like?"

Druckmann responded:

There are clickers as big as buildings. Also you have lots of new gadgets and weapons (more lasers!). Oh and Ellie can now control the infected with her new powers. We'd also probably dive into the government conspiracy of creating a secret weapon that broke loose and that's how the outbreak started. There's probably a shadowy secret agency in all this that you find out Joel has been a member of this whole time (that's why he came home late in the prologue!)

Obviously, Druckmann's sense of humor, the same that fueled a musical alternate ending to the game, is in full force here. What would you want to see from The Last of Us 2, if it ever happens?
