Internet Retailer Amazon Buys Killer Instinct Xbox One And Strider Developer Double Helix Games

Amazon has confirmed purchase of Double Helix Games, the development studio behind the recent Xbox One exclusive reboot of Killer Instinct, and the future of that ongoing project with Microsoft seems stable.

Amazon apparently bought the studio's talent and intellectual property, but no financial details have been shared as to how much money the studio sold for. Double Helix is based in California following the merger The Collective and Shiny Entertainment in 2007.

TechCrunch first heard the news from a joint job recruiting event but Amazon has since confirmed the deal saying "Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers."

I never knew Amazon had a commitment to innovative games! Apparently they also have a studio in California dubbed Amazon Game Studios. Will the two combine? Will Double Helix remain separate to continue developing for their existing projects?

Double Helix will release Strider this month. Check out our hands-on preview of that game here. If you're interested in Killer Instinct on Xbox One, check out our full review here.
