When crafting the successor to Xbox 360, Microsoft spent a lot of time mulling over what to do with the controller. Gamers loved the Xbox 360's control pad, so changing it was something the Big M was a bit hesitant to do.
According to the industrial designer behind Xbox One, Carl Ledbetter, many people at the company were "apprehensive" about changing up the controller. In fact, Microsoft never really pressed him to change it at all. "There was never a direct ask for us to make it better," he explained. "People were a little apprehensive, like, "We have a great controller. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.'"
Do you think Microsoft made the right decision in modifying the controller, even if the changes are rather subtle? Do you like Xbox One's control pad more than Xbox 360's? How does it stack up to PlayStation 4's DualShock 4?
