Ubisoft To Drop Tetris On Next Gen Consoles, Fits Perfectly

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original release of Tetris in 1984, Ubisoft and The Tetris Company have announced that Tetris will be coming to the Xbox One and PS4 via digital channels.

Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot had this to say about Ubisoft's involvement with the historic franchise:

We’re very excited to start working with this world-renowned brand, and can’t wait to combine Ubisoft’s expertise and all the capacities of next-gen consoles to create an exciting new Tetris experience for fans.

No release date was given, but it's likely that Ubisoft will look to release in 2014, using the 30th anniversary of the game as a launchpad to garner more attention for the release of Tetris on next gen consoles.

This news makes me extraordinarily happy, being a Tetris fanatic myself. Just today alone I played imaginary Tetris as I loaded my car's trunk with groceries, Tetris-style. I look forward to rekindling an age-old addiction sometime in the very near future.
