Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model Splatoon 3 Edition as well as a themed Pro Controller and carrying case accessories, which has promptly halted all rumors of a Switch Pro or Switch 2 being announced anytime soon. Rumors of the latter two consoles had gathered pace following a series of misinterpreted hints earlier this week.
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model Splatoon 3 Edition Details
The special edition Nintendo Switch – OLED Model Splatoon 3 Edition console features purple/navy/white and green/yellow/white Joycons, as well as a black back. The docking station is white and features a yellow paint splash. All of these are covered in Inklings and Octolings artwork from the upcoming Splatoon 3 game. The console will be available on August 26 in preparation for the game’s release a couple of weeks later.
The console will be accompanied by a Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which is primarily black but features the same navy and yellow coloring as the Joycons on the controller handles. Again, both this and the similarly colored carrying case are covered in artwork from the game. Both of these will be available from September 9.
The confirmation of the Splatoon 3 console puts an end to the rumors of a Switch Pro console, or even the Switch 2, at least for now. As explained by ex-Nintendo employee Kit Ellis, the removal of the older Switch OLED and Switch Lite trailers is most likely due to licensing issues, while the now-deleted Tweet from industry analyst Serkan Toto (spotted by Reddit) that referenced “Pro time” was likely referencing the new controller. The stockpiling of raw materials will likely be used to build the new consoles, or at least partially anyway. Admittedly, the NSW trademark is slightly harder to explain, but there’s still no sign of a brand new console model just yet.
In other gaming news, The Division Resurgence is a free-to-play AAA shooter heading to mobile platforms soon. Elsewhere, the Fortnite Indiana Jones Battle Pass quests have started today.
