Sony Sells 4.2 Million PS4 Consoles Globally By End Of 2013

Sony has announced today that the PS4 global cumulative sales have surpassed 4.2 million consoles as of December 28th, 2013.

PS4 software sales have also reached 9.7 million units, and PS Plus subscriptions have increased by more than 90%.

PlayStation President and Group CEO Andrew House had this to say about the PS4 milestone:

The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn't be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network.

After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014.

Analysts have been predicting that the PS4 has had a stronger launch since November, but with both console manufacturers revealing sales estimates during 2013, the PS4 is the clear winner over the Xbox One, which sold 3 million units within roughly the same timeframe

Sony has strong momentum following the PS4 launch, announcing a new PlayStation Now game-streaming service. The PS4 has also yet to launch in its native homeland of Japan where it should enjoy sales completely unaffected by the Xbox One.
