Death Stranding 2 apparently isn’t the only game on which Hideo Kojima is working according to the latest leak. Early footage of a new horror-themed game currently codenamed Overdose has emerged and it seems like this may be the rumored Xbox-exclusive Hideo Kojima title that players are hoping will be revealed during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase this weekend.
What is Overdose?
Overdose is not believed to be Death Stranding 2 (or a Silent Hill game) although it does feature a character played by Margaret Qualley, the actress who portrayed Mama in Death Stranding. It is more likely to be the “radical project” Kojima described as he explained his plans for 2022 at the start of the year. Try Hard Guides saw the early footage and described a game with jump scares and a tense atmosphere, suggesting it is the horror game that Kojima is rumored to be making:
“Footage shows the character walking through dark corridors with a flashlight in third-person, but it’s been suggested that the game can be played in first-person too. A jump scare at the end of the footage shows “GAMEOVER” followed by “A Hideo Kojima Game”… “OVERDOSE”.”
Rumors have been spreading for over a year that Kojima Productions were in talks with Microsoft to produce an Xbox-exclusive title. As Death Stranding is a Sony-owned IP, copyright, and trademark, it would make the most sense for this Hideo Kojima game to be Overdose. Nobody has been able to verify whether a deal with Microsoft has been finalized, but players are hoping a game will be announced during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12 if the rumors are indeed true.
