The latest update for Metroid Dread has added three new game modes: Boss Rush, Survival Rush, and Dread Rush. All can be accessed from the Samus Files screen, but you’ll need to complete the game at least once before getting access to any of them.
Metroid Dread Ver. 2.1.0 Patch Notes
Metroid Dread Ver. 2.1.0. was released on April 7. The update adds three new game modes. The first of these is Boss Rush, accessible after players have completed the main game. Samus faces 12 continuous boss battles in a race to achieve the best time. Any damage she receives during a battle is carried over to the next battle, although weapons and ammo are fully replenished. If Samus is defeated, there is a Retry option to restart the mode from that battle but it does come with a time penalty for doing so.
The fiendishly difficult Dread Rush mode is extremely similar to Boss Rush, but defeat comes far more easily. Like Dread Mode, just a single hit from a boss will completely deplete Samus’ health and she will be defeated. Practice mode allows players to take on the bosses individually at any time if there’s one that’s being a particularly big problem. Dread Rush is unlocked by finishing the main game in Dread Mode.
Survival Rush is the third of the three new modes. Players get a five-minute time limit to see how many bosses they can defeat. There is no refilling of health, weapons, or ammo as they are carried straight into the next battle. Each defeated boss adds time to the clock with a bigger boost for those who manage to defeat the boss without taking a single hit. However, defeat will mean the end of the mode regardless of whether there is time left on the clock. Players can try this mode after they’ve completed Boss Rush mode or Dread Rush mode.
As well as the Boss Rush modes, the Metroid Dread update also “fixed an error where the Game Over screen would not display properly when Samus takes damage and is defeated immediately after destroying a central unit,” but this is the only bug fix in the patch notes.
In other news, Halo Infinite Season 2 will be arriving next month and will bring with it a Battle Pass that doesn’t expire and Last Spartan Standing mode. Elsewhere, the latest Gran Turismo 7 update has fixed credit rewards for many of the races and events that were drastically reduced with the previous update.
