Forspoken, a Playstation 5 console exclusive that was set to release in May has been delayed again. The game’s new release date is now October 11. The official Twitter account provided a statement as to their reasoning for the pushback. This Forspoken delay comes after the first one for the game that was initially set to launch in January 2022.
Forspoken delay due to lack of polish
In the tweet, Luminous Productions suggests that there were not yet comfortable with the progress they have made on Forspoken so close to its release:
“Our vision for this exciting new IP is to deliver a game world and hero that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come, so getting it right is extremely important for Us. To that end, during the next few months we will focus all of our efforts on polishing the game and can’t wait for you to experience Frey’s journey this fall.”
Forspoken is a spell-slinging action adventure title where you play as a New Yorker named Frey Holland who is suddenly transported to the world of Athia where she gains the gift of magic. In fact, the game was called Project Athia before being fully revealed as Forspoken during the premiere Square Enix Presents showcase in 2021.
Fans reacting to the announcement are generally in favor of Forspoken’s delay, noting the horrible state that Cyberpunk 2077 was in when it launched. Some believe that Forspoken needs more work as well, pointing to the game perhaps not fully used to showcasing AMD’s new FidelityFX Super Resolution.
Given the recent troubles and disappointing launch of Babylon’s Fall, a Square Enix and Platinum Games title which has been widely panned by fans and critics alike, the Forspoken delay should be a welcome relief.
In other news, Elden Ring has beaten the likes of GTA 5 and Among Us in concurrent users on Steam, and we have given plenty of praise for Gran Turismo 7 in our review.
