Disney Plus could be gearing up to launch a Star Wars Bo-Katan series, according to a new rumor making the rounds. This would center on Bo-Katan Kyze, portrayed by Katee Sackhoff in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and The Mandalorian. The big question we have is when the Star Wars Bo-Katan Season 1 release date will be.
What is the release date of Star Wars Bo-Katan?
We anticipate that Star Wars Bo-Katan Season 1 will premiere sometime in 2023 or 2024.Disney banked on Gina Carano’s Cara Dune from The Mandalorian, initially; quite obviously propping up the character for story expansion in both Mando and the now-canceled Rangers of the New Republic series. Carano, of course, mucked that up with offensive Twitter comments and was axed from Disney entirely in February of 2021. Now, they have a void to fill.
Aside from the above-mentioned reasons, Disney needs a renewed investment in a dynamic female character for their set of Star Wars series. Commitment to this endeavor is apparent across multiple IPs under the Disney umbrella.
According to a report from That Hashtag Show, Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan may fill that void. They claim to have a source confirming that Sackhoff has been tapped to lead a series for the character.
In terms of timeline, the report states this new series would pick up after the events yet to unfold in The Mandalorian’s third season. This suggests that Bo-Katan would likely be a prominent character for that season’s story arc, setting up her series quite nicely. It’s further possible that Bo-Katan could make an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, providing further lead-in.
Hopefully enough to keep exposition-heavy flashbacks at a minimum for the series, so we dive right into the heart of the narrative with a character already well-established across multiple properties. One can hope, anyway.
The Mandalorian’s third season has resumed filming, following a holiday break, and is speculated to drop on Disney Plus by the end of the year. This could leave ample time in Sackhoff’s schedule to begin filming a Bo-Katan series this year, for potential release in the first quarter of 2023. Some speculation suggests a late 2023 release, but my money is on sooner, rather than later… for PR purposes. Not to mention that quite a bit was likely already developed for Rangers of the New Republic and shifted to Bo-Katan… studios love to save a buck.
