SteamOS Hardware Requirements Reveal What Kind Of Computer Will Run SteamOS In Your Living Room

Valve posted the FAQ for SteamOS and revealed the operating system's hardware requirements, in addition to a wealth of other details about how SteamOS works on your computer, what it'll do for you now, and what to expect later as development continues.

First, it shouldn't be surprising that SteamOS itself doesn't require an extremely powerful PC to operate. When Valve announced their new operating system, they said that SteamOS is designed with PC enthusiasts and newcomers in mind, but remember that not everything will be ready to go as soon as you install.

Game streaming from a beefy Windows PC to a SteamOS-box, for example, is not currently available. Valve has provided lots of answers to a variety of questions on their SteamOS FAQ page, but here are the hardware requirements:

  • Intel of AMD 64-bit capable processor
  • 4GB or more memory
  • 500GB or larger disk
  • NVIDIA graphics card (AMD and Intel graphics support coming soon)
  • UEFI boot support
  • USB port for installation
