Castlevania Advance Collection offers GBA classics and bonus SNES game

Some of the most revered games in the Castlevania back catalog have made their way to the Nintendo Switch and platforms beyond. As revealed in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, the Castlevania Advance Collection bundles together the series’ three Game Boy Advance entries as well as Dracula X, the SNES entry otherwise known Rondo of Blood.

The Castlevania Advance Collection groups together four separate titles:

  • Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
  • Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
  • Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
  • Castlevania: Dracula X

Not only are these some of the most highly rated games in the series, but the three GBA games are all designed around portability. They’re definitely meaty adventures, but the core loop is still something that’s friendly enough for both quick sessions and long commutes. In other words, they’re perfectly tailored to the Switch hardware.

Of course, this newest release also gives players another chance to play these games on the big screen. This was possible before through the Virtual Console back on the Wii U, but this new bundle allows for each game to be played at home or while out and about — at least on the Switch. Players on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC won’t have that luxury.

Even better, like other modern game collections, the Castlevania Advance Collection includes a selection of present-day bells and whistles. There’s a rewind mechanic, a quick-save mechanic, and art gallery, and the option to swap between American, European, and Japanese versions of each game.

More than anything, though, this bundle offers a great way to catch up on some of the most highly rated games in the Castlevania series. Not everyone made the jump from console to portables when the series did, meaning a lot of players missed out. Now they won’t have to sit back and wonder. Nor will they have to wait, as the Castlevania Advance Collection is available on digital storefronts starting today. It’s priced at just 20 bucks, too. That’s a lot of Castlevania for not a lot of cash.
