Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 enhancements

Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 update patches the game to run at 60 FPS

Gamescom ONL gave players a February 2022 release date for the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn sequel, though the original is playable in new glory right now. The HZD PS5 update is out now, free for all owners of the PS4 game with a PlayStation 5 console. Notable Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 enhancements include 60 FPS performance and 4K checkerboard resolution, making the game look and perform better than ever on console.

Horizon Zero Dawn Enhanced Performance Patch doubles the framerate

Horizon Zero Dawn PS4 owners can now download the free Enhanced Performance Patch for PS5. With the new HZD PlayStation 5 update installed, fans can experience Aloy’s adventure at 60 FPS with 4K checkerboard resolution.

The Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 update helps to bring the game more in line with last year’s PC version. That said, the game still lacks ray tracing on PlayStation 5. Console ray tracing will seemingly remain exclusive to the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, launching for PS4 and PS5 on February 18, 2022.

A range of paid Director’s Cut editions is making its way to PS5, including Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding so far. It’s interesting that HZD is getting a free update instead, though it isn’t unheard of, with the likes of God of War paving the way. Perhaps the impending launch of Forbidden West is to thank; a free patch will likely draw more players in, while also conserving fans’ money to put towards the sequel.

Gamescom Opening Night Live also gave Horizon fans a look at Aloy in Genshin Impact. The Horizon x Genshin Impact crossover will take place on September 1, with Aloy arriving alongside miHoYo’s 2.1 version update.

Elsewhere in the Gamescom ONL presentation, fans got their first look at the Saints Row reboot. Despite some initial fears, the game still features character customization. There’s also Marvel’s Midnight Suns (get the need-to-know here) and some sweet limited edition Halo Infinite Xbox hardware.
