New Fortnite update finally lets you search your skins

The new Fortnite update is here, with a bevy of changes to the beloved battle royale game. Firstly, Epic Games have removed Coral Castle, suggesting a new location will appear in future updates. In addition to that, there’s a new limited-time mode called Impostors, where players have to identify and eliminate a secret double agent, who aims to secure an in-game objective. One addition that hasn’t received much coverage is the introduction of item search tags. They help make finding the right skin or accessory much easier.

What are Fortnite tags?

The premise of Fortnite tags is simple. They give each individual item unique qualities that you can type into the search bar to locate more easily. The tags were uncovered by user Luwwani on Twitter. They use “yellow” as an example that brings up skins like the Banana and Easter Chick.

It’s not clear what criteria Epic Games uses to differentiate every item and its characteristics, but it’s certainly a useful addition. If you’re a Fortnite player with a lot of cosmetic skins in your collection, it’ll make searching for the right one a much quicker process. It’s reminiscent of Pokemon Go’s category system. You can type a Pokemon type in the search bar, and it’ll bring up all Pokemon that fit the specified criteria.

However, it does seem like this new feature doesn’t apply to all skins. That’s going off the Reddit post that uncovered the item search tags. It says that “some skins” have it, suggesting others do not. Therefore, it’s worth playing with the feature a little bit. It’ll help determine whether your favorite skin has its characteristics laid out.
