Is Beth dead in Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty’s latest episode hints at a major character death

So is Beth dead in Rick and Morty? Thanks to a surprising revelation from hippie memory Rick in Rick and Morty Season 5 Episode 8, ‘Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort,’ Beth may actually be dead. In fact, the Rick and Morty Beth death scene may have actually been shown, if fan theories have been correct, and the show may have just tried to cover up that fact. So is Rick and Morty’s Beth really dead?

Rick and Morty Season 5 Episode 8: Is Beth dead?

rick and morty is beth dead

It seems very possible that the original Beth, daughter of the Rick Sanchez followed in Rick and Morty, may actually be canonically dead in the show. In Rick and Morty Season 5 Episode 8, the hippie Rick from Birdperson’s memory confronts the real Rick about his future choices, before dropping the revelation: “You live with a version of our dead daughter.”

While technically true no matter what, since Rick and Morty have abandoned whole dimensions at least a couple of times, memory Rick would not have known about those. In fact, the answer may stem from Season 3 Episode 1, which showed both Beth and Rick’s wife Diane dying in an explosion. While Rick says that this memory was false to trick the Federation, fans have theorized this was actually real. Given Rick and Morty Season 5‘s previous admission from Mr. Nimbus that Diane was dead and this new revelation about the original Beth, this memory may have been more real than Rick let on.

Following Season 5 Episode 8, the show will now go on a short break of several weeks before the finale, although apparently the last episode will be an hour-long two-part story. Season 5 has had a mix of good episodes and bad episodes so far, so fans are hoping that the finale will be something special. However, whether it will reveal exactly what happened to the original Beth is anyone’s guess.
