PS5 SSD prices revealed and they cost up to $1,000

Mixed news for PS5 owners today, as the console’s long-standing storage problems are finally about to be resolved — for a hefty fee. Previously, you could only use the built-in console storage, which totaled at 825 GB. However, today the company announced that beta users will be able to install an M.2 SSD to their PS5. The bad news is the price — they can cost up to $1,000.

How much does the PS5 SSD storage cost?

It’s going to be a very expensive endeavor to upgrade your PS5 SSD storage. Considering the base 825 GB of PS5 storage isn’t quite enough for most players, then a 500 GB upgrade might not do the job. It means it’ll get pretty expensive if you want a decent amount of SSD storage on your console in the future.

Of course, it’s worth remembering that Seagate won’t be the only hardware company with PS5-compatible SSDs. It’s just the first company to declare it, meaning other companies could follow with cheaper models in tow. However, it certainly doesn’t bode well, if the price is that high. Understandably, PS5 owners aren’t particularly happy with the news:

Now that Sony has finally confirmed extra SSD storage for the PS5, you can guarantee that more companies will be clambering to get the cheapest hardware on the market. However, at this rate, it’s still going to be a costly venture. If you want all the biggest games on your PS5 hard drive, it might cost you a lot more than the console itself.

In other news, The Suicide Squad reviews are out now — and they’re DC’s best reviews yet. Bad news for fans of Dr. Wario World, as Nintendo is closing the game’s servers down.
