Dead Space 4

Fans want a Dead Space remaster, not a remake

The latest rumors are flying that Dead Space 4, supposedly being developed by Star Wars Squadrons studio EA Motive for reveal at EA Play this month, is actually a remake of the first game rather than a sequel. Most fans are seemingly excited by these Dead Space remake rumors, but most are more excited by the idea of a Dead Space 1 remaster rather than something akin to the Resident Evil 2 remake.

What fans are saying about the Dead Space Remake rumors

Dead Space 4

The rumors of another Dead Space game have been floating around for a while, but several pieces of recent news have brought Dead Space 4 back into the conversation. The Dead Space YouTube channel has been updated for the first time in eight years, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla director Eric Baptizat has recently joined EA Motive, who are the ones supposed working on the new Dead Space. However, it’s VentureBeat’s supposed confirmation that DS4 is actually a Dead Space remake that has fans most conflicted.

Many fans are excited at the idea of Dead Space returning, but most would prefer a straight updated remaster of the originals rather than a remake.

Others are more vehement towards the idea of a Resident Evil 2-style remake as most believe that Dead Space 1 and 2 still hold up perfectly fine today, and are worried EA will do to the new game what they did to Dead Space 3.

Fans with longer memories, including Dusk developer David Szymanski, are fully angry that this is happening, after EA’s mishandling of Dead Space 3, closing down creator Visceral Games because the publisher didn’t see any value in single-player games, and may be bringing back an idea it already passed on seemingly because horror games are popular again.

It seems likely fans will find out more about this new Dead Space game at EA Play Live 2021 on July 22, and will see if all the anger is justified.
