Overwatch 2 Apex Legends ping

Overwatch 2 is borrowing Apex Legends’ best feature

Blizzard has confirmed that it has a version of an Overwatch 2 Apex Legends ping system in the works and it is “excited” to bring it to the game, and possibly even to the original Overwatch too. The system was one of the most lauded features of Apex Legends when it came out, and an Overwatch 2 ping system is one of the most requested features from fans. But when can players expect to see it?

When is the Overwatch 2 Apex Legends ping system coming?

For starters, Overwatch 2’s release date is still a big question mark so any potential system like that could easily go live when the game releases. However, in confirming the system Blizzard suggests that pinging may be coming to regular Overwatch in the near future too. In a recent AMA session on Reddit, Blizzard developer and Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller (or blizz_akeller on Reddit) was asked about a ping system and he said, “we’ve definitely considered this.” He also adds that the team has a version already running in the game and is “working through issues” before they release it.

The Apex Legends ping system was one of the most praised features in Respawn’s battle royale when it released, and was so good that Fortnite quickly implemented its own version too. Fans should certainly hope to see it in the original Overwatch since it’s near-certain that Overwatch 2 is not coming out this year. While in the same AMA Blizzard says that a playable beta is “almost certainly” happening well in advance of the main game, it’s probably best that players don’t get their hopes up about playing Overwatch 2 in 2021.

Still, Blizzard continues to trickle out more info about the game. A recent stream showed off a lot about Overwatch 2’s PvP mode, including new looks at various maps and how it’ll be a five-on-five game rather than six-on-six, as it is in Overwatch. Furthermore, earlier this year players got a look at the redesigned skins for McCree, Reaper, Pharah, and Widowmaker.
