LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be missing key PS5 and Xbox Series features at launch, with the upcoming game set to release without ray tracing, 3D audio, and the gameplay improvements provided by Sony’s DualSense controller.
While the current-gen versions of the game will take advantage of some key current-gen enhancements, such as making use of the PS5’s SSD to run the game faster, it will be missing out on features specific to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Developer TT Games’ Dawn McDiarmid revealed these omissions to Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via BrickFanatics), noting how it won’t take full advantage of the current-gen systems when it releases in spring 2021.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga PS5 and Xbox Series X features could come in an update
When TT Games and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive announced that the game was going to be delayed past its original 2020 release date, this news was released alongside the confirmation that it would also be heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X. As such, many hoped that the game would boast significant improvements for its current-gen versions.
Although these improvements might be on their way in the form of a post-launch update, at launch it seems it won’t boast many features fans had hoped for. This includes a lack of functionality with the DualSense controller and its haptic feedback, along with it not boasting the improved visual enhancements provided by ray tracing.
However, we know that the game will at least boast 4K and HDR on the Xbox Series X. The listing for the game on the Xbox website confirms that it will run at a 4K resolution with HDR enabled, a first for the LEGO series. It has yet to be revealed if the game’s PS5 version will do the same, though it’s likely that it will have comparable performance and visuals across both current-gen consoles.
It’s disappointing that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga won’t launch with the same bells and whistles as other current-gen games, though with an announced 300 playable characters spanning the entirety of the mainline Star Wars series, it’s looking like there will be enough in the game even if it is missing some technical features.
In other Star Wars-related news, it was recently reported that KOTOR 3 is in development from a studio other than BioWare, while it was also confirmed that an open-world Star Wars game is being developed by Ubisoft.
