bethesda indiana jones game

Bethesda is working on an Indiana Jones game, but will it be Xbox exclusive?

Bethesda is working on an Indiana Jones game, the publisher has announced, which is being developed by MachineGames in collaboration with the newly unveiled Lucasfilm Games. A short teaser revealing the project was released today alongside a brief announcement outlining the studio’s plans.

The project is being executive produced by Todd Howard, who led the development of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. This new division was debuted yesterday, with it set to focus on Lucasfilm projects such as Star Wars. However, this new announcement highlights how the company will also focus on other intellectual properties outside of the sci-fi franchise.

The Indiana Jones game is being developed by Bethesda studio MachineGames, most notably for its work on the Wolfenstein series. MachineGames has solely developed first-person shooter games, which could offer insight into what we can expect from the untitled Indiana Jones project.

Will Harrison Ford be in it?

Bethesda’s official statement noted that it would tell an “original story,” meaning that we won’t see a retread of previous Indiana Jones films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Last Crusade.

This also leaves Harrison Ford’s involvement up in the air — though Ford is irreplaceable as the whip-wielding hero, will the role be given to another voice actor? It would certainly be a huge get for Bethesda to secure the bonafide A-lister for a voice acting role. Still, Bethesda now has a large amount of money at its disposal thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher, so there is the potential that Ford has joined the project for a hefty sum of cash.

Will Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game be an Xbox exclusive?

Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda also raises further questions regarding potential Xbox exclusivity. It’s unclear if Microsoft will want Bethesda-published games to remain exclusive to the Xbox platform, or if it will allow these games to also release on PS5. If it’s the former, then the Indiana Jones game may not arrive on PS5, or it may be a timed Xbox exclusive.

The teaser for the game can be viewed below:

There’s no release date for the Indiana Jones game at the time of this writing, with Bethesda stating that “it’ll be some time” before the company has more to reveal about the project.
