Cyberpunk 2077 DLC: No Man's Sky-esque comeback update is 'not true'

CD Projekt Red says rumored No Man’s Sky-esque comeback for Cyberpunk 2077 is ‘not true’

When a game has as rough of a launch as Cyberpunk 2077, there’s plenty of blame to go around. Such blame can sometimes be expressed through anonymous forum posts from the developers, which disgruntled players are more likely to believe without any evidence. Many of these come and go but CD Projekt Red has decided to publicly refute one particularly big rumor surrounding some alleged Cyberpunk 2077 DLC that is supposed to give the game a No Man’s Sky-style comeback.

The Cyberpunk 2077 DLC will be something else

The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account broke from its pattern of not debunking viral rumors and debunked this viral rumor while posting a Reddit thread quoting a GameFAQs post quoting a 4chan post of the alleged update plans and turmoil within the company. This mysterious person in that original thread said that “plans of a ‘No Man’s Sky [sic] style comeback” was set for late June and that two patches would be out my mid-March. The post later goes on to say that the game would be “complete” by the end of 2021.

Even without the official dunk, these proposed plans are a little suspect. No Man’s Sky had a radical transformation since its launch in 2016 and it was a process that took years. It took years for the original worms to burrow their way into the game. Saying that a comeback would be “due” for late June doesn’t give CDPR much time to turn the game around in such a dramatic fashion and match the game it is being compared to. It is likely that the team start making broad changes and course correct by then, but that’s not quite how it was worded.

It’s a pretty broad post that covers a lot of topics from cut content to internal drama to Johnny Silverhand’s original Solid Snake-esque origins, but CDPR appears to have wholeheartedly debunked the whole thread and invalidated the juicy details it holds. While there are undoubtedly struggles within the companies and stories to be told about them, this random forum post appears to not be it, according to CDPR, at least.
