Microsoft Windows 10 will receive a huge visual upgrade in 2021, company reveals

Microsoft Windows 10 will receive a “sweeping” visual upgrade in 2021 that is intended to show users that “Windows is BACK.” The statement was made via an official job listing, which provided insight into Microsoft’s plans for this year.

Microsoft posted a listing requesting applications for a Senior Software Engineer, making reference to its plans for Windows in 2021. While this won’t be Windows 11 — Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will remain the operating system that it will continue to build upon — it will seemingly be a big step up for the OS.

The job listing contained a now-deleted paragraph outlining the next step for Windows:

“On this team, you’ll work with our key platform, Surface, and OEM partners to orchestrate and deliver a sweeping visual rejuvenation of Windows experiences to signal to our customers that Windows is BACK and ensure that Windows is considered the best user OS experience for customers.”

When is the next Windows 10 2021 update release date?

So what could the next Windows 10 update be? We know that Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 update codenamed its Sun Valley update, with rumors suggesting that key features such as its Start Menu, Action Center, Taskbar, and Windows apps will each receive big improvements (via Windows Latest).

According to these rumors, the new Windows 10 update is currently in its beta testing stage, meaning that we could see improvements being released as soon as February 2021. Depending on how far along Microsoft is in the testing stages, the full release of the next Windows 10 update could take place as soon as Q2 2021.

Windows 10 receiving a big update will be another major move for Microsoft, fresh off of releasing its successful Xbox Series X|S consoles. You can check out how the Xbox Series X’s launch games fared in our Game of the Year 2020 awards, or vote in our Readers’ Game of the Year awards.
