Yet another Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay has been announced, owning to an “undercalculated” time requirement for developing a post-launch patch. The Cyberpunk 2077 “Day 0” patch will see the release date pushed back by several weeks.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the works for nearly a decade. The sheer scale of the game has led to multiple delays in 2020 alone. The game’s release date was first moved from April to September earlier this year and it was delayed a second time from September to November. Now, CD Projekt Red has made the unfortunate announcement that there will be yet another Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay.
Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay will let CDPR ‘raise the quality bar’
The third Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay will surely be disappointing to fdans, especially with the news that Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer won’t launch for several years. The game has already “gone gold” some time ago; this means that it has passed certification on all platforms and is in a playable state. However, CD Projekt Red is still working on a “Day 0” patch to further improve the experience and a miscalculation on the required time to complete this patch has resulted in this second delay.
“Passing certification, or ‘going gold,’ means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it,” read a tweet on the game’s official Twitter account. “But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated.”
CD Projekt Red notes that it has to test nine separate versions of the game for PC, Stadia, and consoles, owing in part to the cross-compatability of the game between current-gen and next-gen systems. The Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay will push the launch back by 21 days; the new Cyberpunk 2077 release date is December 10, 2020.
