Poor Sales Keep Need For Speed: Rivals Off Wii U And Vita

Craig Sullivan, creative director at Criterion Games, confirmed that Need for Speed: Rivals will not make an appearance on either the Wii U or the PlayStation Vita, and he said that low sales were to blame.

"[Most Wanted] didn't really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market," Sullivan said to The Sixth Axis. "We did a load of extra work on the Wii U version, and we had a lot of guys working on that stuff, you know?"

Need for Speed: Most Wanted appeared on both the Wii U and Vita, and neither sold that well, most likely due to the low install base of those consumers.

"[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts," said Sullivan. "The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game."

And the Wii U and Vita do not have pieces of that "biggest audience."

EA hasn't been interested in porting its games to the Wii U in quite some time, saying back in May that they could not get their new Frostbite 3 engine to work properly with the Wii U.
