The release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been revealed alongside the game itself. An in-game event in Call of Duty: Warzone announced when the game would release and what platforms it’ll be available on.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 13. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in the works, but are tentatively scheduled for “Holiday 2020.” With more and more major games releasing around November 13-17, it’s almost assured the next-gen consoles will release during that timespan.
Those looking to pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will face a more complicated issue than before. The three digital editions are:
- Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War – Standard Edition: $59.99 – Just the base game.
- Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War – Cross-Gen Bundle: $69.99 – The PS4 or Xbox One edition, plus a cross-gen upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – Ultimate Edition: $89.99 – The game with the cross-gen upgrade and battle pass.
Which edition you buy really comes down to whether or not you plan on purchasing a next-gen console. If you’re not moving to the PS5 or Xbox Series X, then there’s no incentive to grab anything past the standard edition. However, you could always pay the extra $10 and add the next-gen version to your library just in case.
The campaign found in Black Ops Cold War is a bit atypical for a Call of Duty game. A preview on our sister site PlayStation LifeStyle states that the main character is user-generated this time around and that the game opts for more open-ended missions. We’ll also see the return of the beloved Zombies mode in Black Ops Cold War, but Activision is keeping that under wraps for now.
