Get ready to say goodbye to Twitch Prime — according to one report, this Amazon Prime perk will soon be rebranded as Prime Gaming.
“Prime Gaming is a service that helps members improve their game experiences by offering exclusive and exciting content for the games they already love, and by introducing them to new games that they will eventually love,” states an excerpt reportedly sourced from internal documents. “All available for free to Amazon Prime members.”
If that sounds just like Twitch Prime, well… it is. As best as we can tell, the only significant change coming to the program seems to be the name.
Twitch Prime offers numerous benefits to gamers every month. These benefits include:
- Free games
- Free in-game items for selected titles
- A free Twitch subscription to use on any qualifying streamer
- A special badge on Twitch
- Special discounts
So why the change? Well, your average Amazon Prime member might not be entirely familiar with Twitch. If you or I asked a non-gamer what Twitch was, they might not know. Pretty much everyone would understand “gaming” outside of context, so the name change makes a lot of sense.
According to Rod “Slasher” Breslau, the official Prime Gaming announcement is expected to arrive later today at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. If you don’t already have Twitch Prime, you can get it by signing up for Amazon Prime.
according to an email from Twitch to partners i've received, Twitch Prime rebranding to Prime Gaming will offer 'more opportunities to grow viewership' to streamers
Amazon and Twitch have planned the announcement for tomorrow morning Monday at 11 AM PST/1 PM EST/19:00 CET pic.twitter.com/P0dlTPnWIe
