New FFXI storyline quests coming August 2020

Believe it or not, new FFXI storyline quests are coming in August 2020, nearly 20 years after the game first came out. While FFXIV continues to grow in popularity and new content, Square Enix is still updating its older online MMORPG — and old school players are about to get some new quests.

“The most exciting news I have to share is that a brand-new storyline will be coming to Vana’diel!” stated the announcement of new FFXI storyline quests (via Reddit). “This story, which will play out over the course of many version updates rather than just a few, explores a side of Vana’diel that’s never before seen the light.”

Mind, new players won’t be able to hop into this new content right away; you’ll have to complete the Rhapsodies of Vana’diel missions first. This series of quests serves as the storyline finale for the game, so this new content is going to be seen by endgame players first.

While this new storyline content is certainly refreshing, FFXI has been updating the game with some regularity for a while now. This update also includes the usual balance adjustments and tweaks that players have seen in recent patches. Still, it’s nice to see that Square Enix hasn’t forgotten about the original Final Fantasy MMORPG.
