Joy-Con drift lawsuit forces Nintendo to stay quiet about possible fixes

Just over a year ago, a U.S. law firm started looking into a Joy-Con drift lawsuit. Legal action on the problem is now underway and it has an unfortunate consequence: Nintendo is staying quiet about its plans for a Joy-Con drift fix.

“Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize for any trouble caused to our customers,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said in a statement as reported by Polygon. “We are continuing to aim to improve our products, but as the Joy-Con is the subject of a class-action lawsuit in the United States and this is still a pending issue, we would it like to refrain from responding about any specific actions.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the problem of Joy-Con drift, it’s an issue with Nintendo Switch controllers where they will get stuck moving in a particular direction. All sorts of proposed solutions have popped up ranging from using electronic cleaning chemicals to outright disassembling the controllers, but there doesn’t seem to be a silver bullet.

Companies will typically refrain from commenting on issues affected by an ongoing lawsuit. In this case, Nintendo may or may not have plans to fix the Joy-Con drift problem, but commenting on it would likely be ill-advised lest it provides ammunition for its legal opposition.

For now, we probably won’t hear about any solutions to the problem until the Joy-Con drift lawsuit comes to an end. In the meantime, you can try out WD40 Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray and see if that works for you.
