A Cyberpunk 2077 anime is coming to Netflix

The very first episode of Night City Wire had some really great surprises in store, but one of them was certainly unexpected: a Cyberpunk 2077 anime is coming to Netflix. Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, this brand-new show by Studio Trigger will give us a new look into the world of Night City.

“We are a game company, we are a bunch of nerds, and wherever there are nerds, there’s gonna be anime fans,” explained CD Projekt Red’s Japan-based Producer Saya Elder. “So, it was always a dream for us to make anime.”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be set in the world of Night City, but that’s about all it will have in common with Cyberpunk 2077. This Netflix anime will be a completely standalone story with new characters and a new original plot.

The animation is being handled by Studio Trigger. This studio is barely a decade old, but they’ve got some great titles to their name like Kill la Kill and Darling in the Franxx.

You’ll be able to watch the Cyberpunk 2077 anime when it makes its debut on Netflix sometime in 2022. For now, you can find out more about its background (and the anime studio behind it) in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners announcement video below.
