The Sims 4 is holding a virtual Pride parade to support its LGBTQ+ players

June is Pride Month and The Sims 4 isn’t letting that go uncelebrated. The simulation game is holding a full virtual Pride parade in order to honor its LGBTQ+ players. This debut parade will run from June 15 to June 30.

Players are encouraged to upload pics of their Pride Sim with the hashtag #SimsPride2020 and others will be celebrated on the game’s official channels. The winners will be featured in the celebration event. On June 30, the last day of the event, Sims and Animal Crossing YouTuber EnglishSimmer will host the official Pride parade livestream.

It appears as though the current pandemic and isolation has spurred the desire to make such a virtual celebration. In addition to saying it “proud to celebrate [its] LGBTQ+ community,” the Sims team also wanted to assure its marginalized community members that they aren’t alone.

“Now more than ever, it’s important to remember that while Pride is a time for celebration, it’s also a moment for reflection and solidarity,” said the Sims team. “All of us are facing difficult, emotional challenges in real life right now. Celebrating Pride might feel complicated as people face the systemic oppression of the Black community head-on and brave the isolation of COVID-19. But none of us are alone.”
