Valve Unveils Multi-Hardware Approach With Steam Machines

The second of Valve's three living room-revolutionizing announcements has just been unveiled. The Steam-powered company has revealed that it will be "working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS."

Valve has already developed a prototype that it will be shipping to 300 Steam users this year, so that a few lucky gamers can test it out. The device will be "completely upgradable and open," as one might expect from a company such a Valve.

If you want a chance at being one of the 300 privileged participants, you can throw your hat into the ring by following the instructions right here.

For more information on what Valve has planned, be sure to check back here when the third and final announcement is made on Friday. Something tells me it's going to be controller-related…
