With the original 2007 Modern Warfare getting a full remaster in 2016 and Modern Warfare 2 getting its own campaign remastered earlier this month, it’s only natural to assume that Activision would do the same to the final entry to the trilogy. According to a recent rumor, Modern Warfare 3 Remastered is not only coming, but it will also be a timed PS4 exclusive as well.
This rumor stems from noted Call of Duty leakers TheGamingRevolution (again, like we say every time, no relation) and the WewLads. They claim that Sony signed a deal with Activision to help get both MW2 and MW3 to the current generation in 2018 ahead of the 2019 reboot. However, the games were delayed because of the mass shooting in Dallas, which would seem insensitive when juxtaposed against MW2‘s “No Russian” mission. The deal still stayed in place despite the delay and has resulted in MW3 Remastered also being a timed PS4 exclusive.
Sony has gotten exclusive Call of Duty access in the past. PS4 owners have gotten exclusive content or early access to DLC in Black Ops 3, WWII, Infinite Warfare, Black Ops 4, and the 2019 reboot, which is still ongoing. The original Modern Warfare Remastered also released a month earlier on PS4, which is some sort of karmic retribution for the original’s map pack arriving first on Xbox 360 back in April 2008. Given this track record, it is not an outlandish assumption to see how Sony’s console would get Modern Warfare 3 Remastered first. Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is still set to come to PC and Xbox One on April 30.

There’s no rumored release date on the remaster, but it’s probable that Activision will also shadow drop this game. Given that it is allegedly done, as the dates on the plaques in the MW2 Remastered museum talk about the “Remastered Collection” in 2018, it might be sooner than you think.
