Bethesda E3 2020 conference canceled; fans disappointed

With E3 2020’s cancellation, many game developers signaled their intent to move to a digital presentation. One showcase, however, will not be coming: the Bethesda E3 2020 conference has been canceled.

“Given the many challenges we’re facing due to the pandemic, we will not host a digital Showcase in June,” said Bethesda’s Pete Hines. “We have lots of exciting things to share about our games and look forward to telling you more in the coming months.”

The news is particularly disappointing to fans of Bethesda’s franchises, many of whom are expressing their sadness in the replies. QuakeCon 2020 was already canceled despite being several months away, and the lack of a Bethesda E3 2020 conference will sting even more.

What’s worse, this was likely the first year that we would have gotten a solid look at The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield, two hotly-anticipated games coming up from Bethesda in the near future. Now, plans to possibly showcase these games have been shelved.

It’s not all bad news, mind; the tweet from Mr. Hines implies that we’ll be getting some kind of information in the future. It just won’t be during E3 2020 like we hoped.
