PS5 release date delay

No, the PS5 launch date won’t be delayed

Earlier today, Sony warned customers about the effect of the current pandemic on their business, leading some to speculate that there may be a PS5 release date delay. However, the company has since followed up to say that the Holiday 2020 release date for the PlayStation 5 should still be on track.

A massive statement from Sony covering all of their businesses details how the worldwide health crisis we’re all dealing with is affecting their business around the world. Some areas are particularly dire — movies aren’t doing so hot right now, for example — but the gaming business doesn’t seem to have any problems on the hardware end so far.

Here’s one particular area of concern:

In addition to the shutdown of Sony’s manufacturing plants in Malaysia, the flow of resources from suppliers in Asia has become unstable, having a wide-ranging impact on the manufacturing of goods in the [Electronics Products & Solutions Segment].”

However, it should be noted that that same Sony statement shows that they estimate “no material impact” on their gaming segment. Furthermore, a Sony spokesman has subsequently told Bloomberg that they believe there won’t be any PS5 release date delay.

So there you have it! If you’re worried about not getting your PS5 at the end of the year, you can breath easy for now.
