Xbox Series X hands-on and gameplay revealed

New details of the Xbox Series X have been revealed alongside hands-on and gameplay showcases from select influencers and media outlets. The new information focuses mostly on how the new Xbox’s internals fit together, as well as how fast the storage is.

The Xbox Series X — which is indeed this console’s confirmed name, with “Xbox” being the name of this fourth generation — will ship with a 1TB “custom SSD.” This SSD will allow for “Quick Resume” and better loading times.

Quick Resume allows the user to “seamlessly switch between multiple titles from a suspended state almost instantly, returning you to where you were and what you were doing, without waiting through long loading screens.”

The better loading times have been demonstrated in the video below, which uses some backward compatible games to show how “gamers will experience more time playing and less time waiting as loading times will be greatly decreased and fast travel systems will be just that: fast.”

Both Austin Evans on YouTube and Digital Foundry (Eurogamer) published hands-on videos, where they each built a system using various components. This helps to show how everything fits together and why the Xbox Series X is the shape that it is. A 130mm fan sits at the top (or side) of the system and pushes cool air through.

Xbox Series X gameplay was also shown off, but it focused on last-generation games like State of Decay 2Minecraft, and Halo 5. Performance is difficult to judge through YouTube, especially with one of the videos being rendered at 24 FPS, but we’ve embedded the 60 FPS Digital Foundry footage below. The best demonstration of performance is at 8:00 where Gears 5 is running at 4K 60 FPS.

Microsoft has revealed almost everything but the price of the Xbox Series X at this point, which begs the question of when Sony will be releasing more information about its PlayStation 5. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait long!
