The Wonderful 101 Xbox One port

‘Very costly’ The Wonderful 101 Xbox One port is unlikely, Kamiya says

With four days left on The Wonderful 101 Kickstarter, fans might have picked up on a notable omission: the Xbox One. Unfortunately, those of you hoping for The Wonderful 101 Xbox One port are likely to be disappointed.

“[We] did plan and want to release on Xbox One,” Platinum Games’ Senior Vice President and Game Designer Hideki Kamiya told Gematsu (via ResetEra). “But the fact of the matter was that the original engine for the game and the engine for the Xbox One are very different, and it’s not easy to port like the other systems. So as a result of that, unfortunately and regrettably, we had to relinquish the Xbox One release.”

Describing the port as “a very costly thing to do,” Kamiya went on to explain that Platinum just doesn’t have the ability to get it done in-house. Presumably, an Xbox One version of the game would have to be a much higher stretch goal tier to accurately reflect the extra cost. At the time of writing, no such stretch goal has appeared.

You still have four days left to pledge to The Wonderful 101 Kickstarter campaign, so you might want to go and do that before it’s too late. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a The Wonderful 101 Xbox One port at some point in the future.
