Animal Crossing: New Horizons map customization is better than ever

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct has just wrapped up and it’s revealed some pretty cool new things about this upcoming game from Nintendo. One of the biggest new features is massive improvements to Animal Crossing: New Horizons map customization.

Previously, players of the Animal Crossing games had some measure of freedom with placing paths or moving homes in their town, although this sometimes required that people tamper with their 3DS system clock. The level of customization revealed in the Nintendo Direct, however, takes things to a whole new level.

Since this game begins on a deserted island, Animal Crossing: New Horizons map customization kicks off with where you decide to place your tent. That freedom only gets wider as the game goes on. You’ll be able to change that tent into a house which offers a lot more room. And if that’s not enough, you can expand the house even further!

Nothing is set in stone on the island, either. If you don’t like where your house is placed, you can pack it up and move it somewhere else. This applies to other buildings, too, letting you get your Animal Crossing: New Horizons map customization just the way you like it.

For the first time ever, players will even have a hand in shaping the land itself. Players will be able to terraform the island!

What can you change on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons island?

  • Add or remove rivers
  • Raise or lower cliffs
  • Build bridges/ramps over cliffs and rivers
  • Build or move houses and other buildings

Getting things set up correct is important, especially because you won’t be alone on your island. A total of eight people on one Nintendo Switch console will essentially live on the same island, making co-op play much easier!

You’ll be able to enjoy all of these cool new features and more when Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrives on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020. Check out the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct below to see these features in action!
