Biomutant is still in development, its creators have confirmed, though its release date has still yet to be locked in. The game was announced back in late 2017, with little being shown of it since a playable demo appeared during the same year’s Gamescom. However, developer Experiment 101 has confirmed that it’s still hard at work on delivering the ambitious open-world RPG.
Experiment 101’s statement notes that the studio doesn’t want to reveal when it’ll release just yet, with it instead only choosing to do so when it’s confident that it can meet the date.
The statement reads:
“We know many of you are wondering if the game is still in development. Let us assure you that we’ve never been working harder and more focused on it than now.
We are doing everything we can to make this the best game all of us have ever worked on and that it will be as entertaining and great as we can possibly make it.
We can only hope for your continued support and patience as we complete the final stages of its development.
As some of you might understand or know, the work involved in finishing a game is long, challenging and unpredictable. The sheer magnitude, size, and length of Biomutant adds to said effort.
We will reveal the release date as soon as everyone at our studio feels confident about hitting that date and the game is ready for it.
Again, thank you for your understanding and for your continued support and enthusiasm for our game.”
Biomutant attracted a lot of attention after being revealed, mainly due to its unique character creation tools. Players will be able to customize their mutant protagonist, with changes to their physical appearance affecting their stats — for instance, a heavier character with thicker fur will have more damage resistance but will also make it slower, while a larger head would also make the character more intelligent.

Experiment 101’s statement suggests that Biomutant is still a long way from releasing, so at this point, it seems likely that a next-gen version of the game on PS5 and/or Xbox Series X is on its way. However, the developer has yet to confirm this, with it still only slated for a PS4, Xbox One, and PC launch.
