Half-Life: Alyx release date announced

Valve has been targeting a March release date for Half-Life: Alyx, and it looks like it’s delivering. Today, Valve announced via Twitter that Half-Life: Alyx will release on March 23, 2020.

Half-Life: Alyx covers the time between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and serves as a prequel to the latter game. It will center around Alyx Vance and her father Eli’s guerilla operations against the Combine, and fill in some of the backstory on the invasion of Earth.

Unlike previous Half-Life games, Half-Life: Alyx is designed to be played exclusively in VR. Despite the change in platforms, the game is said to very much channel classic Half-Life gameplay with plenty of exploration, combat, and puzzles to experience.

To celebrate the impending launch of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve is offering Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 as free-to-play titles for the next six weeks. If you haven’t had a chance to play these iconic games, you still have plenty of time to catch up before Half-Life: Alyx launches on March 23.
