There are now not one, but two Mortal Kombat movies in production. And while we’ve known about the live action one for quite some time, Warner Bros. has just announced the existence of an animated Mortal Kombat movie as well. Called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, this animated film will come out sometime in the first half of 2020.

But Warner Bros., as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, unveiled more than just the name, release window, and logo, which you can see below; the company also revealed the talent behind it. Ethan Spaulding will direct it, who is familiar with other animated works as he co-directed Batman: Assault on Arkham (which was set in the Batman Arkham video game franchise) and was a storyboard artist for The Legend of Korra. Ed Boon, co-creator of the series, will also be a creative consultant.
Steve Blum will be coming back to voice Sub-Zero, as he has voiced the ice warrior in Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 11, and Injustice 2. Patrick Seitz will also reprise his role as Scorpion, as he played the character in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Injustice, and Mortal Kombat X. Kevin Michael Richardson is set to return as Goro, a role he only had for the 1995 film and not the games. David B. Mitchell is voicing Raiden, who voiced Geras in Mortal Kombat 11, and Ike Amadi will be Jax, despite his roles voicing Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 11.
Community actor Joel McHale and Dexter actress Jennifer Carpenter are arguably the biggest stars in the film, as they will voice Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, respectively. The rest are as follows: Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Darin De Paul as Quan Chi, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, Grey Griffin as Kitana, and Fred Tatasciore as Demon Torturer, who is likely a new character.
This is not the first time Mortal Kombat has gotten into the animated space as Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins released in 1995 in addition to the cartoon series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, which ran for one season in 1996. Regardless, we don’t know much about this new movie or what it looks like. However, it appears as though we will know soon, given how its release date is right around the corner.
