cyberpunk 2077 delay

Cyberpunk 2077 delay pushes release date to September

Developer CD Projekt Red has delayed Cyberpunk 2077. The Cyberpunk 2077 delay comes just days after Square Enix delayed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, pitting the game against Cyperpunk’s previous April release date.

CD Projekt Red announced the delay on Twitter, saying it wants to make Cyberpunk 2077 its “crowning achievement” for the current console generation. In order to do that, CD Projekt Red needs more time for polishing. According to the developer, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently “complete and playable,” but the “massive” amount of content in the game’s Night City means there’s still work to be done. The developer also noted that fans should expect more updates on the game’s progress as the new release date approaches.

The Cyberpunk 2077 delay has pushed the game’s release date from April 16, 2020, to September 17, 2020. On the same day it delayed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Square Enix also delayed its Marvel’s Avengers game to September. The live-service Avengers title will now have to compete with CD Projekt Red’s massive RPG as 2020’s likely crowded holiday sales season approaches. While September just got more crowded, the Cyberpunk delay leaves April open for domination by the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as the only other big competitor confirmed to release that month is the Resident Evil 3 Remake.

As CD Projekt Red mentioned in the delay announcement, Cyberpunk 2077′s Night City is reportedly densely packed with content, despite being smaller than The Witcher 3′s map. Much of the polishing that still needs to be done is likely related to the number of different paths a player’s Cyberpunk character choices can create. With so many variables and different methods of to approaching a situation, CD Projekt Red likely has its hands full with making sure players don’t run into roadblocks. And being one of the most anticipated games of 2020, Cyberpunk has a lot it needs to get right in order to avoid disappointing fans.
