Elgato 4K60 S+

Elgato 4K60 S+ lets you capture 4K gaming on the go

Elgato is well-known for creating some cool tech for streamers to use and they’ve just announced something pretty wild at CES 2020: the Elgato 4K60 S+ capture card. It’s not their only capture card, but it is the only one that can capture in 4k at 60fps on the go.

Streamers and YouTubers alike may want to capture footage of a game and that’s certainly easy enough when they’re at their home setup. After all, a capture card can easily plug into your computer’s PCIe slot and do all of the heavy lifting for you so you don’t stress out your graphics card too much. However, that becomes a much more challenging problem when you’re on the go, forcing some people to go as far as bringing an entire laptop or miniature desktop with them for capturing gaming. Now, Elgato has cooked up something that solves that problem without breaking the bank.

Here’s the skinny on what the Elgato 4K60 S+ is capable of:

  • 1080p at 60 FPS capture
  • 2160p (4K) at 60 FPS capture
  • 1080p 240FPS / 1440p 144FPS passthrough
  • HEVC hardware encoder
  • 140 Mbps max bitrate

That’s pretty impressive for any kind of capture card that slots into your motherboard, but that’s not how the 4K60 S+ rolls — instead, it’s a standalone device that’s stupidly easy to use.

Utilizing an SD card (all the way up to 256 GB), you can capture up to 7 hours of high-quality gameplay. If you’d prefer to stream live, you can do that do — no standalone PC or specialized software required. Plug in your gaming console or PC of choice into one end, hook up the output to whatever you’re streaming from, and get to it without having to worry about messing around with encoder settings or anything like that.

You’ll be able to pick one of these bad boys up for yourself at a price of $399.99, according to The Verge.
