Project Scarlett revealed as Xbox Series X at The Game Awards 2019

In a surprising twist, Microsoft revealed that Project Scarlett is coming out as Xbox Series X at The Game Awards. Along with the name, the trailer (which you can see below) showed off the box, which is pretty tall by console standards. It is still releasing in the nebulous time frame of holiday 2020 for an unknown price.

Microsoft didn’t reveal much else about the new console, but Head of Xbox Phil Spencer took to the stage and talked about the future where “you’re instantly absorbed in your games” and the “worlds are even more life-like, immersive, responsive, and surprising.” It seemed aimed at the console’s faster SSD drives and stronger internals. He said it set a new bar for “performance, speed, [and] compatibility.” Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, which was also revealed at the show, is also coming to the console and will “fully leverage the power of the Xbox Series X.” Nothing was spoken about the rumored Anaconda, the version that is allegedly less powerful and lacks a disc drive.
