Brand-new Persona 5 Scramble Sophia gameplay has been revealed this morning in a Japanese livestream of the game, showing off the newest character to join the Phantom Thieves. Sophia—code-named Sophie—will be joining the Phantom Thieves in Persona 5 Scramble, kicking butt and taking names in an adorable battle costume.
As highlighted by ResetEra, A Japanese livestream took place this morning that showed off some uncut action from the game, and that included a bit of Persona 5 Scramble Sophia gameplay. Unlike previous entries in the franchise, Persona 5 Scramble doesn’t focus on RPG combat or dancing; rather, it’s firmly set within the brawler genre.

Sophia wields a pair of yo-yos in combat and makes use of large, sweeping attacks to hit multiple enemies within range. You’ll be able to mix up how exactly she swings her yo-yos depending on the timing you use, allowing you to target enemies in different directions around her.
In addition to her deadly yo-yos, Sophia also has a long-range energy pulse in her arsenal of attacks. This pulse can be carefully aimed, and it seems to have a pretty decent range, allowing you to take down enemies from afar with ease. Finally, Sophia (and at least one other character in the game, mind) has the ability to perch on high ground, jumping down onto an enemy and instantly landing a high-damage attack.
Persona fan site Persona Central has some new details about this new character as well. According to a tweet from the outlet, Sophia has an unknown origin, but she wants to be friends with humans. Series producer Daisuke Kaneda reportedly states that she’s similar to Jose in Persona 5 Royal.
Persona 5 Scramble is shaping up to be a pretty interesting change of genre for the franchise. You can get hyped for its forthcoming release by watching the new Persona 5 Scramble Sophia gameplay in the video below.
