Next MLG Championship Will Not Have StarCraft II

StarCraft II, which has been in practically every Major League Gaming event since its release in 2010, has been pulled from the fall Championship event in Columbus, Ohio.

The game, however, will continue to run in Blizzard's World Championship Series, which consists of 30 events organized by Blizzard itself.

Sundance DiGiovanni, chief executive of MLG gave the following statement/explanation on why SC2 will not be present at the next competition: “Folks who love [StarCraft 2] have tons to watch. North American Star League is still there [and the] WCS isn’t going anywhere. [The game] just doesn’t fit into our Columbus plans.”

Note that this doesn't definitely say that SC2 has been pulled from all MGL Championship events, but it doesn't appear that SC2 will be sticking around for future events either.

ne of gaming’s biggest competitive leagues is dropping one of the marquee titles in e-sports.

Major League Gaming revealed today that it has no plans to include StarCraft 2 at its fall Championship event this November in Columbus, Ohio. MLG chief executive Sundance DiGiovanni broke the news on Twitter:

Developer Blizzard’s real-time-strategy game played a prominent role in nearly every MLG event since the title launched in 2010. Blizzard will continue to run its World Championship Series for the game, which features 30 events officially organized by the developer.

We’ve reached out to the MLG and Blizzard to determine why this decision was made.

At the recent MLG Summer Championship in Dallas, the league featured competitions in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, League of Legends, and StarCraft 2. MLG has not announced the lineup for its fall show.
