With Modern Warfare‘s impending release, some players may be looking for a way to get a leg up in multiplayer. Luckily for them, it seems that the game has a way for them to do so. For the first time in series history, the Modern Warfare campaign will let players earn experience points and unlock gear for multiplayer.
Infinity Ward announced the feature in a recent tweet. Here, the studio confirmed that, “for the first time ever, you can earn XP and unlock exclusive gear for Multiplayer and Special Ops through Campaign!”

Most previous Call of Duty games maintained a strict separation between the campaign and multiplayer modes. Players had to earn multiplayer gear and experience points by playing multiplayer. 2017’s Call of Duty: World War 2 did try to change this somewhat. The latter broke from tradition by giving cosmetic items to players who had played through its campaign.
Players will finally be able to earn not just experience points, but actual equipment and weapons they can use in multiplayer. This equipment that players earn from playing the campaign will be exclusive to that mode. Of course, this raises the question of what exactly players will be given for playing through the campaign. Whatever it is, it will have to be balanced with the rest experience so it doesn’t throw off the game for those who haven’t finished the Modern Warfare campaign.
Better gear that can be earned through the campaign isn’t the only thing Infinity Wars is using to incentivize players. Recently, Art Director Joel Emslie also confirmed that the Pro Perks from some of the previous games would be making a return in Modern Warfare. However, he teased that these would be returning under a new name, and that they would feature an all new system.
