Tipster Silverstorm pinged me this evening to share the news that Activision has bought itself back from ownership in a 429 million share sale for 10% less than today's closing price. The charge was led by Bobby Kotick and Brian Kelly, among other investors picking up more than 170 million shares.
Vivendi is still holding on to a very minor stake in the company, but the majority of ownership is in management. Let's hope Activision's star continues to rise with Call of Duty, Destiny, Skylanders, and a few licensed brands in tow. Blizzard, of course, makes World of Warcraft which is still holding strong.
Interestingly enough, the group of private investors snapping up tons of shares also included Chinese net company Tencent, which also made moves on Epic Games recently.
